Singleton, Snyder name son
Rev. Betsy Singleton and U.S. Rep. Vic Snyder have decided on a name for their son, who was born yesterday: Charles Pennington "Penn" Snyder. (Singleton's great-grandfather was named Sidney Pennington, and Snyder had a favorite uncle named Charles.)

Comments
Charles Pennington "Penn" Snyder.
Might I suggest naming the next one Teller.

Is it my imagination, or is Rev. Betsy wearing an "I Voted" sticker in that pic?

I just don't see the newsworthiness of this. Save it for the Birth Announcement page in the Demozette.
ARK. BLOG What a sourpuss. Or Mayberry supporter.

Until then, congratulations, Congressman and Reverend! Hope all is going well with the new bundle of joy!

Singleton better start calling herself Mrs. Snyder if she wants her old man to get re-elected. That "Hillary Rodham" last name stuff won't play well in Vilonia or Perryville, West Little Rock, etc.

RE: name thing.
I'd wager that the people of Vilonia/Perryville/WLR could care less what her last name is. C'mon dude, fight your battle elsewhere. She's a MINISTER for you-know-who's sake. Granted, she probably wouldn't be a minister in Mayberry. I'm pretty sure they don't like there woman folk gettin' all uppity and preachin' and workin' and thinkin' and what not.

Hey Barn! Can you say Ex-Congressman Vic "I never met a tax I didn't like" Snyder....? can you say Congressman Andy Mayberry....? I love it!!!!!!!!
Posted by: Anonymous | May 24, 2006 03:39 PM
Please believe me when I say I'm very happy for Vic and Betsy. They've wanted a child for a long time, and they'll be great parents...however..
It's about freakin' time! QQUMC can finally enjoy a sermon, meeting, or church newsletter that doesn't mention THE PREGNANCY. Betsy seemed to forget that the congregation was there for a blessed birth that happend 2000 years ago...not hers...
I know that's typical of expectant mothers, but most don't usually have such a large pulpit (pun intended)

Did you libs know the Singleton-Snyder's moved out of Hillcrest? as in "movin' on up..to the....." like the "Jeffersons"
Posted by: Anonymous | May 24, 2006 03:42 PM
That looks like an "I voted" sticker to me.
Voted in the Arkansas primary and birthed a baby all in one day?! Betsy is a champ!

Andy Mayberry.. probably the farthest right nut job the repugs have thrown at Vic. They really have written off this seat haven't they? Two more years, Vic, two more years. Oh, and congratulations.
Posted by: Anonymous | May 24, 2006 03:51 PM
Yeah...two more years of Vic will get two more years of voting to get in yore ass pocket with more tax raises....Andy all the way....right Barn?
Posted by: Anonymous | May 24, 2006 03:55 PM
If you read the interview with Mayberry in the D-G, you'd be amazed at how dumb he is.
Did anyone in Mayberry even go to college, except the doctor (maybe)?

Would someone confirm what I suspect...did Vic took tax money in the form of the GI bill to go to Med School? If so he should pay every dollar of it back because he hasn't devoted that 'tax paid for knowledge' to practicing medicine in years and years...instead he has spent all this time as a politician...
Posted by: Anonymous | May 24, 2006 04:01 PM
'Tax and spend' ...that old mantra. It's a shame that the Republicans have adopted only the 'spend' part. Debt?..Shhhhh.
Posted by: Anonymous | May 24, 2006 04:05 PM
Please- if it weren't for Snyder you would be paying more taxes due to all the lovely lobbyists out there- at least Snyder is trying to make it a level playing field- reality NOT Mayberry RFD.
Posted by: counterpoint | May 24, 2006 04:06 PM
Who among you doesn't want some of your money back? I suspect the ones who are against tax cuts are the ones who don't pay taxes...you know that's right. I suppose you people who did get a tax cut sent it back to the IRS !! Yeah right ! Hypocrits

Research this a little. A few years ago Congress made a point of asserting that its medical members could not practice while they served in that august body. However, I remember reading that on several occasions Vic has sprung forward to offer medical aid on Capitol Hill, including the incident in which the Capitol policeman was gunned down.

I'll come right out and say I am in favor of increasing taxes significantly.
But only on those fools who got us into this war and this debt - Republicans.
How about it? Are you ready to step up and pay your bill? Or are you going to saddle the rest of us with it? I'll bet you'll wait until you're thrown out of office, make the Dems do the dirty work, then stand on the sidelines and whine.

I don't think Vic Snyder has anything to be ashamed of -- he has served both his country and his fellow man. He's doing that now -- just in a different arena.
Posted by: Anonymous | May 24, 2006 04:20 PM
hey Roland ....how much tax did you pay in in '05, State & Fed? none...The Republicans pay all the bills for this country and should be the ones to spend it as they see fit....when you and the rest of you liberals pay the bills then you can complain. Until then shut up and whine among yourselves.
Posted by: Anonymous | May 24, 2006 04:31 PM
I paid taxes WITH ROLAND. Let's see- how about $42,000. Hmmm let's see, Probably more than you made that year...
Posted by: counterpoint | May 24, 2006 04:38 PM
First of all anonymous, we're not friends, so you don't get to call me Barn.
Second, i think you should keep up your comments against Vic. It's kinda funny. In all honesty though, you've got to know deep down that Vic's going to win. People in his district like him. At least the majority...and that's all that matters.

Anonymous,
My daughter's share of the cost of your war is $20,000. Paypal it to me or STFU.

Vic Snyder always gets blackjack...even when he's playing poker.
Superman owns a pair of Vic Snyder pajamas.
Vic Snyder's calendar goes straight from March 31st to April 2nd...nobody fools Vic Snyder...nobody.
Vic Snyder can divide by zero.
Vic Snyder doesn't read books. He stares them down until he gets the info he wants.

hey Roland...you want your daughter to see suicide bombers in the streets of Little Rock...?
Posted by: Anonymous | May 24, 2006 04:58 PM
counterpoint...that's pocketchange...my wife paid more than that....

"Hey Barn! Can you say Ex-Congressman Vic "I never met a tax I didn't like" Snyder....? can you say Congressman Andy Mayberry....? I love it!!!!!!!!"
Bud Cummins couldn't do it. Phil Wyrick couldn't do it. Bob Thomas couldn't do it. Jim Baker couldn't do it. Marvin Parks couldn't do it.
Does anyone with enough brain function to count to 10 think Andy Mayberry can beat Vic Snyder in November?
The last Republican victory for the 2nd District seat came in 1982--when Andy Mayberry was 12 years old, Don Knotts was "Mr. Furley" on "Three's Company" and Andy Griffith was not yet "Matlock."
This seat is Vic Snyder's until he retires from Congress--take it to the bank. If Chuck Banks was the Republican nominee for Snyder's seat, THEN we'd have a race.
That Chuck couldn't even beat Jim Holt in Pulaski County shows how nutty Republican primary voters are--north, east, west and south.
Once Mayberry loses, what's next--a Republican nominee in '08 who wants to take "Gong Show" thinking to Washington, D.C.?
Posted by: mayberry loses 65-35 | May 24, 2006 05:47 PM
I'm the only Chuck that could beat Vic Snyder. The only reason I don't is out of respect for his ass kickery skills. That and his abilities with a bow staff.

Oh for heaven's sake. You dont think Vic can use what he learned in medical school now? ever heard of the medicare prescription drug plan?
congrats to the new parents on a beautiful baby. Thanks for sharing his picture with us. That's all that matters in this thread.

Amen to the above post about Betsy and her baby sermons. My God, she went on and on about giving birth. It happens thousands of times a day in places around the world. Proud Mama and all but she isn't the first one to procreate and I don't think Baby Snyder is the second coming. Maybe she'll get focused and do her job.

Kudos to any woman confident enough to allow a picture of her taken right after giving birth to be publicly circulated!
I wish all of our elected officials were of the Snyder quality. I'd say it's his experiences as a doc that make him seem 'sensitive' to the concerns of the poor/middle class...but then I think of Frist...

Betsy's Grandfather, Sidney Pennington, served in the Arkansas Legislature in 1897 as Representative from White County.

This comment "It's about freakin' time! QQUMC can finally enjoy a sermon, meeting, or church newsletter that doesn't mention THE PREGNANCY. Betsy seemed to forget that the congregation was there for a blessed birth that happend 2000 years ago...not hers..." amd the one posted by Amen, are indicative that if these yahoo's are, in fact, members of QQUMC they do not realize the significant of church families have new babies, especially those born to the pastor. If you are, in fact, members you probably need to move to a church that suits your needs better.
Posted by: Jim | May 24, 2006 07:54 PM
Sorry Jim, but the first post was written by a member of QQUMC. And I obviously touched a nerve. As I said, completely happy for Vic & Betsy...wish them nothing but the best. However, I am a member of the church who doesn't think Betsy hung the moon. Let me be clear - Betsy is a wonderful person. I'm also part of a group of members who support all the wonderful ideals and missions of the church, but doesn't necessarily agree with all of Betsy's decisions.
I also don't think her constant baby talk was very considerate of those members of the church who either don't have children or (especially) can't have children.
I know members who had children and didn't have children who would say to themselves, "Yes Betsy, we're happy for you, but geez!"
"you probably need to move to a church that suits your needs better" - nice Christian sentiment. If you Jim, are truly a member of QQUMC, you'll know that they accept EVERYONE - regardless of whether they happen to agree with the preacher all the time. When you join, you take a pledge to support the CHURCH with your prayers, presence, gifts, and service. If pledging undying and blind support to the pastor (or else be told to leave) is a requirement at QQUMC, then maybe you're right - maybe I do need to find another place

Say what you will about Betsy, she's brought God to a lot of people who were burnt out on or wounded by 'organized religion'. Plus, she's positively brilliant. A great speaker. And works about 20 hours a day. Yeah, the baby stuff got a little old, but she went through hell trying to get pregnant. Who are we to judge her? Where would QQUMC be without her? She and her husband are both blessings from God to this community and state.

I like Betsy and I'm glad that she finally had that baby she has always wanted. Having said that, I can only imagine life at QQUMC the last 9 months. She was sufficiently tedious and inward-directed when she was at Pulaski Heights. Congrats to them both, however. Always good to see a new baby.
