People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is plying LR with news releases again, but this time without the added allure of chicks in skimpy bathing suits.
Here the subject is circuses, specifically the Shrine Circus scheduled at the State Fairgrounds next week, April 21-22. PETA recounts misbehavior by animals at previous Shrine circuses and suggests that the behavior could be tied to mistreatment of animals by trainers. PETA, in urging the State Fair not to host future circuses, also raises questions about how much of the profit from the shows reaches Shrine Hospitals for children and how much pays for administrative costs of the fraternal organization. “The Shrine needs to get out of the circus business,” PETA’s news release says.
