Stephens Media columnist David Sanders, a preacher’s kid and Baptist deacon, attended the recent Southern Baptist Convention as a voting “messenger.” The trip is the subject of his column today. It becomes apparent he didn’t vote for Ronnie Floyd of Arkansas for SBC president. His column offers good insight on why Floyd was defeated. The rank-and-file sent a message to the denomination’s “kingmakers” that they had minds of their own and that participating in the convention’s big mission programs (Floyd’s church is stingy in this regard) was very important to them.
