Gov. Huckabee has elevated David Maxwell to head the state Department of Emergency Management to succeed John Brackin. Maxwell has been deputy director.

To hear the governor tell it, Brackin up and left unexpectedly. Funny, it sure looked like Brackin hurried out the door just ahead of the toe of the governor’s boot for speaking too candidly about an agency unprepared for major disaster.

“The unexpected and abrupt departure of John Brackin made it necessary to fill the director’s position as soon as possible with someone who has the experience and knowledge that Maxwell has,” said Gov. Huckabee.
