A report on cost-cutting in conventional telephone service because of competition from Internet calling services. This competition is also driving the phone companies into such things as TV delivery by phone lines. That particular issue comes to a head in LR next week. AT&T is believed to have LR Board votes wired for an agreement to start Internet TV in LR. Comcast is fighting furiously. It contends AT&T isn’t being made to meet the same standards of its cable franchise. AT&T says, now that you mention it, the same is true for Comcast’s entry into the phone business.
