So far so good at our house. I even got a rainy walk in to prepare for the feast (roast beef, not turkey here). But for those still searching: New Fun Ree is open.

From the e-mail this morning:

NY Bill sends a link to Pottersville, steady supplier through the year of free NYT columnists, for today’s update of a Christmas classic. It’s a Frank Luntz production of “It’s a Blunderful Life.” Starring you know who.

Another reader provides a link to a Dallas Morning News story related to the same lead character, or at least SMU’s hunt for his library. It reminds us of the LR battle for the Clinton Library. (And what ever did happen to that counter-Clinton library anyway?)

But even Mr. Bush’s critics acknowledge that the library can go a long way to enhance SMU’s reputation and prove a boon to the Dallas area, as well.

Some worry that the library could turn into a conservative institution that alienates moderates and those opposed to Mr. Bush’s controversial administration.

“If he turns it into his right-wing ideology think tank, it will harm the institution,” said Darlene Ewing, chairwoman of the Dallas County Democratic Party. “We sure don’t want to turn that clock back and have people think we’re right-wing nuts. SMU is not considered one of the best colleges in the country. It will add to their prestige if they can operate a library that embarks on a scholarly pursuit.”

Some SMU faculty members are concerned that the library could become a haven for conservatives, but Rep. Pete Sessions, R-Dallas, dismissed such concerns.

“The Bush ideas about democracies, about inclusion of people to make decisions about the betterment of our world, is what he would use this library or platform for,” Mr. Sessions said. “I think it’s going to be fabulous.”
