Re the election on mayoral powers and some citizen comments at a public hearing last night that the change could somehow jeopardize the popular city manager Bruce Moore (which I don’t credit by the way): This statement was issued Friday:

Statement from Little City Directors Kumpuris, Hurst, Keck, Cazort, Fortson, Wright and Mayor Stodola

In Friday’s Arkansas Democrat Gazette, it was reported that statements were made Thursday evening at a community meeting in the Willie Hinton Center accusing members of the Little Rock Board of having secret plans in the works to fire City Manager Bruce Moore. We would like to be perfectly clear: no such plan exists. The Board of Directors has full confidence in Bruce Moore; we believe he is an asset to Little Rock. He is a true professional who does outstanding work.

We are saddened by these baseless accusations, and want there to be no doubt that our belief that strengthening the office of mayor to make it more accountable and responsive to the residents of Little Rock has absolutely nothing to do with Bruce Moore or his job performance. We look forward to the day when a stronger mayor works hand in hand with Bruce Moore to make Little Rock the next great Southern city
