Many lies have been told to promote shifting the burden of immigration enforcement from the federal government, where it belongs, to local law enforcement agencies, which already have plenty to do. It has already led to racial profiling. Moreover, it has also become a full-time job for locals, which means more cops have to be hired to replace those enforcing non-criminal status offenses against undocumented roofers, greenskeepers and such.
Take Washington County, for instance, which now must hire more deputies. Ain’t George Bush-style federalism grand?
