I like the ongoing debate over whether to expand Fayetteville High School or build a brand-new school farther out. Here’s a slick new website by the group, BuildSmart, arguing for expansion of the school at its existing location.

I like the story because  it has so many interesting facets — the influence of big money, the University of Arkansas as a ready tool of the moneyed interests, urban sprawl, the argument for denser cities, environmental impact of commuting patterns, what defines a quality high school, a ready resource of activists and thinkers to challenge the Powers That Be, electoral politics. Plus, I don’t think there’s a foregone conclusion. So there’s drama, too.
