Sloppy work here. Stephens Media lets Republican Sen. Gilbert Baker get away with saying the state Ethics Commission’s advisory opinion yesterday confirms he’d done no wrong in using a University of Central Arkansas tent and crew for a campaign fund-raiser.

The opinion did no such thing. It took pains to note the opinion only addressed general use of public property by political campaigns. It did not investigate the facts of Baker’s use of UCA property.

It should. It’s laughable to argue that UCA makes its tent available to all on an equal basis. The best anyone has been able to determine, Baker’s use of the tent was the only outside use of the public’s property in years. Fuller account in Democrat-Gazette.

Ah, he would say, nobody else knew to ask. Same as for the swank UCA house his son gets to live in.

Come on, Gilbert. How stupid do you think people are?
