Trustees of the Arkansas Teacher Retirement System think director Paul Doane’s phenomenal travel habits — just coincidentally he flew for dozens of days last year to places handy to his “other” homes and another little job — are just ducky. Sure they do. They’re traveling all over creation, too.

Believe me, trustees, the financial advisors who make millions investing your money can buy the plane tickets to come to Little Rock and talk to you in person right here if the phone, Internet and financial publications aren’t sufficient to keep you informed. I know. You’d miss out on the fine meals and luxury hotel rooms that come with these onerous fact-finding missions.

If anybody should understand the not-so-subtle influence-peddling that’s at work in these outrageous junkets, it’s legislators who are rented out by steak dinners and a few drinks at Sonny’s. I hope they keep the pressure on.
