House speakers have been decided well ahead of time since forever. For years, though,  it was sort of an informal sign-up process that generally produced a winner that passed around at least partly on longevity.

No more. Term limits and the need to accrue power and achievements quickly has changed all that. So it is that the race for House Speaker 2011 is well underway. Leading candidates are Reps. Robert Moore and Johnnie Roebuck. Update here. Byproducts can include serious horse trading in current legislative affairs, campaign contributions and assorted other political skulduggery.
