As expected, President Obama has rescinded the gag rule that kept family planning money from going to international organizations that provided abortion or might even mention it as an option to pregnant women. Federal money still won’t pay for abortions. 

The move should prevent many abortions by getting family planning services to many more women. It’s one of many damaging policies of the Bush administration being quickly reversed by Obama, as promised. This was done quietly, without fanfare.
