Thanks to David Kinkade for tip to this fine article. He summarizes the subject: “… stupidest thing ever.”

The article is by Marty Ryall, former executive director of the Arkansas Republican Party, whose vagabond career included managing Sen. Elizabeth Dole’s unsuccessful re-election campaign in North Carolina last year.

The article defends the hotly controversial ad in which the Dole camp hit her challenger, Kay Hagan, for attending a fund-raiser hosted by atheists of the Godless Americans PAC. It was widely viewed as attempting to make it sound as if Hagan had said there is no God.

Ryall insists the ad created no backlash, despite universal opinion to the contrary. It was merely a “hail Mary” pass by a candidate already trailing. Sometimes passes fall incomplete.

Born to spin, Marty was. The Star City flash.
