Mike Huckabee’s mouth is full of shoe again. Now he’s being widely quoted for dumping on the work ethic and values of Northern Virginia voters. They tend to vote Democratic and Huck was pandering to downstate voters with the remark. It’s kind of like when Gilbert Baker or a similar Republican sneers at elitist Pulaski County voters. Playing to the peanut gallery.
But it was still stupid. Bob McDonnell, the Republican Huckabee is campaigning, for hails from — you guessed it — Northern Virginia. His campaign immediately disassociated.
A spokesman for McDonnell, Tucker Martin, pointed out that McDonnell was raised in Fairfax and that “he knows northern Virginia is the economic engine of Virginia.” Martin said Huckabee “made some comments that do not reflect how integrated Virginia’s economy is.”
