NLR Mayor Pat Hays tells the North Little Rock Times (which also took the photo) that it could cost up to $250,000 to save the Salty Parrot, the floating tavern barge that sunk at its Arkansas River mooring last week. Rescue work continues. The mayor is always willing to spend plenty on downtown amenities, but this might prove a barge too far.

For now, there’s still hope the barge can be raised by pumping and salvaged for less if it can be floated downriver successfully to a repair spot.
