All that talk. All that legislation. All those appointments. And, oops, John Brummett notes, the legislature managed to create a state lottery without a clear way to call the first meeting of the commission that will run the thing. The governor stepped up. And now they’ll need a staff. How independent will the commission be of the legislature and governor? He suggests we might get some idea at the group’s first called meeting next month.
(Not to carp, but a delay of a month between appointment of the commission and its first meeting doesn’t bode particularly well for a quick start on the new state gambling enterprise.)
