The Downtown Partnership announced today that it would be moving from its office at Capitol and Main to the Lafayette Building.
It’s in a building owned by Stephens Inc., which is not renewing the lease. (The space was the trading floor for Stephens, the investments firm, before it moved to its current office tower some years ago.). Also slated to leave the old Stephens building before long for newly renovated space in the old Dillard’s building on Capitol Avenue are two state agencies, the Development Finance Authority and the Arkansas Science and Technology Authority.
So, then, the question: What are the plans for the old Stephens buildings once they are empty of existing tenants? Some other nearby Main Street Stephens property, including the former Kempner’s store, is being cleared. “We have no definite plans,” said Frank Thomas, a spokesman for Stephens. “We continue to look for tenants to occupy the space.”
