Did you notice that revenue from the increased gas severance tax fell almost 60 percent below forecast in fiscal 2009? That means, of course, that production fell that far short. Gas price drops didn’t help.
Just remember, nobody can prove all those ruined water wells have anything to do with nearby gas exploration. (They can’t disprove it, either, but the newspaper articles rarely say that.) The fractured roads, the pollution from improper waste disposal, the noise — that we can prove. But don’t you know that’s just the sight, sound and smell of money? Short sighted R Us.
