I promised more from the document dump relating to the U.S. attorney purge. Talking Points Memo did my work for me on one e-mail I’d heard about last night relative to former U.S. Attorney Tim Griffin of Little Rock:

How big of a suckup is Tim Griffin, the Rove protege who the White House was trying to muscle into a U.S. attorney post after firing the previous occupant[ Bud Cummins]?

In a January 2007 email, Griffin wrote to Rove:

Btw my wife is pregnant. We are thinking about naming him karl. Lol.

LOL indeed.

In a separate email form 2005, Griffin made sure Rove knew about his GOP insider credentials, informing him that he was about to leave for his honeymoon on “St. John,” where he would be “staying at Alex Castellanos place.”

NOTED: The Griffins had a daughter. Coulda named her Karla, of course. Or Harriet, after the White House counsel who tried to intervene with the Justice Department on behalf of a congressman under investigation.

ALSO NOTED: This batch of e-mails includes discussions between Griffin and Rove on meetings with Sen. Mark Pryor trying to dislodge his opposition to Griffin’s confirmation as U.S. attorney. And a Godspeed note to Harriet Miers.

AND THERE’S MORE: The Huffington Post dredges up e-mails between two White House aides, Little Rock native Jane Cherry and Scott Jennings, joking after the Washington Post wrote about the ouster of Cummins for Griffin, who’d helped Cherry get her White House job. Cherry is the daughter of the late Sandra Cherry, who was Cummins’ chief deputy U.S. attorney. Background on Jane Cherry here.
