Texas nutjobs — ably abetted by Cabot nutjobs — have been leading the charge to keep public school children from hearing a feel-good TV address by the leader of the free world.

Lest you think Texas opposes ALL politics in the classroom, think again. Talking Points Memo has recapped the ongoing effort to turn school texts in Texas (and thus most of the country) into right-wing propaganda tomes.

Approved textbooks, the standards say, must teach the Texan student to “identify significant conservative advocacy organizations and individuals, such as Newt Gingrich, Phyllis Schlafly, and the Moral Majority.” No analogous liberal figures or groups are required, prompting protests from some legislators and committee members.
