Since both Republican and Democratic candidates are unopposed in the primary elections, Gov. Mike Beebe has moved up the date of the special election to fill Sen. Sharon Trusty’s vacated seat from Jan. 12 to Dec. 8. Candidates are John Burnett of Atkins, a Democrat, and former state Rep. Michael Lamoureux of Russellville, a Republican.
