Here’s the state Racing Commission report on September wagering on electronic games at Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs and Southland Park in West Memphis.

The number was down sharply against August numbers at Oaklawn, from $28.2 million to $24.5 million. But Oaklawn also experienced a drop in September 2008 against the previous month, which ends the summer season at the resort city. Wagering rose slightly at Southland, from $35.4 million in August to $36.3 million in September.

A new form of gambling arrived in Arkansas in September with the state lottery.

Noted: Gamblers at Oaklawn were paid back almost 94 percent of their bets and gamblers at Southland got back about 95 percent. The lottery has been paying out about two-thirds of its sales in prizes.
