Stanley Reed, the Marianna farmer and former Farm Bureau president, is indeed considering a run for U.S. Senate as a Republican against U.S. Sen. Blanche Lincoln. Reed, who’s spoken kindly of Lincoln as a friend of agriculture in the past, told Republican columnist David Sanders she’s being “dragged down” by the Democratic agenda. Real estate magnate Jim Lindsey would be his finance chairman. He said he could self-fund. Lincoln’s a waffler on card check, cap-and-trade, health, etc., says Reed.
Other Republicans say Reed’s potential entry merely shows that Lincoln is widely perceived (by them, anyway) to be vulnerable. Yes, but somebody’s gotta win. At some point, all these candidates are going to have to stop running against Lincoln for a few months and run against their Republican primary opponents.
