Sounds like alcohol distributors are beginning to chafe at the lack of retail alcoholic beverage package sales in Arkansas on Sunday. It also sounds like Gov. Mike Beebe — who knows a thing or two about the legislature — doesn’t think the legislature is ready to open sales on Sunday in wet localities statewide.
Sunday package sales are now possible with a local option vote in places that are already wet. Also, restaurants in wet jurisdictions have been cleared for Sunday sales everywhere. Eureka Springs, for example, has open retail liquor stores on Sunday. But even godless Little Rock hasn’t moved forward on Sunday package sales, just to give you some idea of how tough the idea can be. It’s not all about wets v. drys. Some small retailers prefer not to open a seventh day.
