First, just let me say that I’m not exploring, thinking about, planning, announcing or otherwise contemplating a race for Congress.
But among the legions who are: Add the name of Steve Rockwell of Jonesboro, whose family has the succcessful Corning publishing business, to those who might enter the Democratic primary race for 1st District Congress. Lots of contacts in the district.
Also: I think you can count on the legislative session ending next week. Why? Because House Speaker Robbie Wills has a congressional fund-raiser scheduled March 9 at Cajun’s.
On the host list: PSC Chairman Paul Suskie; former LR Mayor Jim, Dailey; the county judges of Faulkner, Van Buren, Conway, Yell and Perry counties; state Reps. Betts, Hyde, Hoy, George, Hawkins, Reynolds, Perry, Tyler and Nix. Mike and Beth Coulsen, long-time Democratic financiers. Bob Russell, U.S. Sen. Mark Pryor’s former chief of staff. Real estate man Hank Kelley. Former FEMA Director James Lee Witt. And 100 or so more.
Strength in the suburban counties is not a bad thing for any candidate. As the Democratic nominee, it’s a particularly good combination with the likelihood that the Republican nominee will be trounced in Pulaski County. Republicans don’t seem to understand, for example, that Act 1 was clobbered in Pulaski County.
