John Brummett has done my work for me. He wrote about  a visit with Ben Ponder of Mountain Home, a Democratic candidate for 1st District Congress who offers a real choice, not a tired echo of conventional politics, to borrow a phrase. Ponder visited me in Little Rock this week as well.

Ideas and insight pour forth from him machine-gun fashion. With background in the world of telecommunications, health and education, he’s uncommonly well prepped.

He’s a Baptist Sunday school teacher, by the way (CBF church.) I talked about Delta street money and the vendo-matic old-school Democratic approach of priming a presumed black voting machine to win Delta votes. He said he won’t — in adherence to historic Baptist principle — campaign in churches. But if churches ask, he’ll be happy to visit and teach. Just give him the week’s relevant Scripture.
