Goof asked on the open line last night what was known about an event at Central High yesterday. A fight broke out, apparently a good-sized one. School board members were copied on this note from Principal Nancy Rousseau (I’ve been unable so far to get information from the district’s information officer on this or an unrelated event, the recent death of a middle school student.)
Glad this day is over………………We sent home 18 children – 13 girls and 5 boys. The police issued 4 citations. Our nurses sent home three students home for issues involving their exposure to mace. We will get together tomorrow to determine our next steps. I must commend our school SRO’s Reedy/Saxton and the support we got from the LRPD. Our administrative team and security staff were on top of everything all day. We have a wonderful team.
UPDATE: The district confirms the fight, an “unusual” one, and said Little Rock police used a spray irritant to disperse the large crowd that had formed. The episode naturally spawned a round of rumors, but the spokesman said today was a normal day at Central and devoted to state-mandated testing.
