It’s the Republican strategy. Every election at every level — even dogcatcher, presumably, if it was a partisan office — is about Barack Obama, particularly in the former slave states where he is held in low regard.

So we’re likely to see almost daily a news release from Republican gubernatorial candidate Jim Keet calling on Gov. Mike Beebe to repudiate one thing or another Barack Obama has said or done. I give you this one as an example. I won’t make a habit of it. I’d be far more interested in what Jim Keet proposes to do about Arkansas schools and prisons, the state budget, Arkansas health care and human services. Less about how the White House should be run, unless Keet decides to run for that job.

I’d also like to know why, if presidential politics are so important, Keet didn’t even vote in the presidential primary election in 2008. I sent an e-mail to him yesterday about that; no response so far. I wonder if he told Mike Huckabee that he’d supported him.
