David Whitaker, the Democratic candidate for 3rd District Congress, is cranking up his campaign. Here’s a difference with Republican Steve Womack: Whitaker isn’t currying favor with the plutocrats. He favors extension of the Bush tax cuts to the middle class, but not to the wealthy. Womack not only wants to preserve the tax cuts for the rich — and the ongoing deficits they’ve helped produce — he thinks even existing taxes are too high. Said Whitaker:

“It’s time for us to get our priorities straight, and the economic focus back on the middle class,” Whitaker said. “We’ve got to reign in our budget and make sure that small businesses and the people that drive job creation are the focus, not millionaires.”
