Pulaski County School Board member Bill Vasquez has issued a broadside against the — oh, why not? — Gang of Four running affairs in the Pulaski County School District. Contracts? Law? They don’t need no stinkin’ law. They have chosen to ignore a legal contract to run things as they wish, most recently in altering school schedules. The new superintendent knows who butters his bread. He agrees that School Board fiat supercedes contract law. Who knew?
An interesting new undercurrent is talk of encouraging parents to take action. From Vasquez’s note:

I was also asked if it was time for the parents of the district to strike instead of the teachers to which I replied:
I am not opposed to civil disobedience on the part of the citizenry to right a tyrannical abuse of power since the power of the Government comes from God given right and consent of the governed. When we as elected Board Members abuse the Oath of Office we all swear to uphold the citizenry is well within their rights to passively protest through civil disobedience.
The truth of the matter is that we answer to the people and I do not currently believe we are properly serving the desires or needs of the people with our current course of action. What our parents need to understand is they hold ALL THE CARDS — THE CHILDREN. Without children in our schools there is no $$. And without your tax dollars which are determined by the number of children in attendance the answer becomes very plain. If we don’t have your children, we dont have a need for a school district. The future of the PCSSD is not in the Board’s hands and never was. It is, and has always been, in your hands as parents and taxpayers.
