Whatever else happens, Chad Causey won’t lose the race for 1st District Congress on account of gun nuts. The NRA has given him its highest possible rating. (Republican Rick Crawford has a similar rating. But there is no endorsement.)

Remembering the famous Joe White/Gilbert Baker race, I asked the candidates if they have Arkansas hunting licenses. Causey does, a spokesman said. The Crawford camp didn’t respond. But the state Game and Fish Commission said it could find no current hunting permit on file for Crawford. So if Crawford turns up in any photos with a brace of ducks — as so many Arkansas politicians like to do — call the game warden. It’s worth noting that non-hunter Baker won the last time hunting bona fides became a public issue in Arkansas.
