Here’s a new report from the Southern Regional Education Board on increasing participation in Advanced Placement courses and, to a lesser degree, in success rates of students taking those courses at reaching college-level proficiency.

Arkansas has been a leader in increasing participation. Following the pattern nationally, increased participation nationally isn’t always accompanied by an equal increase in the pass rate. There’s still a racial gap among black students — the percentage who scored at least one passing score compared with the percentage of black students in the graduating class — but not among Hispanic students.
