With far-right Republicans in the governor and attorney general offices, Virginia has become a tribune for that brand of politics — against health care, for punitive measures against gay people. Makes Mike Beebe-led Arkansas seem almost an oasis of progressive thought.
But a Virginia state legislator takes the cake with his suggestion to reinstitute a ban on open gay service in the National Guard. This is too cracked even for the governor, though the attorney general is so far reserving judgment. Be sure to check the TV interview, where this fellow says he might be distracted in battle by a gay colleague making eyes at him. Not, I believe you’ll agree.
