Two gunmen robbed Razorback Pizza at 10900 Stagecoach Road Saturday and then fled. But the driver of the getaway vehicle died after a wreck in a chase that also caused injuries to the driver of a car not connected to the robbery. The two robbery suspects escaped.

A customer who was in the restaurant said two men with guns took money from the register and several customers about 8:45 p.m.. She described the weapon as a shotgun; Police Lt. Terry Hastings said it was a .22-caliber rifle. He said they robbed “six or seven customers” of what the customer estimated was perhaps 25 to 30 in the restaurant. The two men ran outside and got in a GMC Envoy driven by a third person. People inside, including a former law officer, pursued and police were called.

Patrol units encountered the fleeing GMC westbound on Stagecoach near the restaurant and gave chase. Hastings said the vehicle stopped to let out two men, then took off again. Officers on foot failed to catch the running suspects. But a short distance away on Stagecoach, the GMC collided with another car and rolled over. The GMC’s driver was seriously injured and died Sunday afternoon in a hospital, Hastings said. His name has not been released pending notification of kin. A female driver of the car he struck was injured, perhaps suffering a broken leg, Hastings said. Her name wasn’t immediately available.

Witnesses said they were told when being interviewed by police that the suspects may also have robbed a fast food restaurant on Stagecoach earlier Saturday evening
