The City Wire reports that a May 12 trial date has been tentatively set for Sen. Bruce “Fireball” Holland of Greenwood who faces fleeing and other charges. He was charged after finally being stopped in a two-county chase at speeds over 100 mph while trying to outrun a traffic stop by a Perry County deputy.

The article includes an opinion from a lawyer who successfully challenged the eligibility of two people elected to office with misdmeanor theft convictions. He says Holland’s offense, if it produces a conviction, isn’t sufficient to bar Holland constitutionally from serving in the Senate.
