- PRESIDENTIAL GREETING: Bill Clinton and seven of the LR Nine.
The Little Rock Nine, who desegregated Central High in 1957 with the help of federal courts and troops, were honored Saturday at the Clinton Presidential Library with an exhibit featuring the Congressional Gold Medals they received from Bill Clinton at the White House in 1999. Seven of the eight living members of the Nine were on hand for the picture above. Elizabeth Eckford is not in the picture, but was present at the program. Clinton was in Little Rock today for a program to open the multi-media exhibit and will be among those on hand tonight at the gala marking the opening of the Argenta Community Theater.
I was lucky enough to be at the White House in 1999 for the medal presentations. It was a joyous occasion.
