James Lee Witt, FEMA director under President Clinton, speaks to the Little Rock Rotary Club at 12:30 p.m. today at the Clinton Library. As a past advisor to Japan on earthquake preparedness, he’s well-placed to discuss events there. A release from his office said his talk may “settle the nerves of Americans who are worried about the situation in Japan.” I dunno. Pretty unsettling over there. (A Witt spokesman said the sentence should have added “and if it could happen here.”)
Witt’s company’s consulting work has included an evaluation of emergency preparedness for a nuclear plant operated by the state of New York.
NOTED: The NY Times harrowing account of the unfolding nuclear disaster in Japan.
