Sen. Larry Teague of Nashville was elected this morning to be the next Senate president pro tempore, succeeding Paul Bookout. He won a contest with Sen. Robert Thompson of Paragould.

Two things: He is the “designee.” That means the election is for the 2013 session. Bookout remains in charge in the fiscal session next year. Teague is in the bullseye of Republicans who hope to capture that Senate seat in 2012, so ….
