Since Texas Gov. Rick Perry has made his super-special faith in Christianity a major selling point in his political life, the Houston Chronicle decided to see what he’s been putting in the alms basin lately.

The result: Perry’s giving to churches and Christian charities doesn’t come close to the national average for giving. His donations as a percentage of income: .53 percent. The national average: 1.2 percent.

Maybe he figures his presence is contribution enough. Maybe he’s too busy passing the plate around himself for an upcoming presidential bid.
