It’s no coincidence. The Times cover story this week by Leslie Newell Peacock is about the shrinking availability of abortion in Arkansas. Today’s New York Times features a stack of new onerous laws in Kansas aimed at shutting down abortion providers. That same legal movement is underway in Arkansas, though it has not yet advanced as far as it has in Kansas. Opponents of choice have found a way to defeat Roe v. Wade through impossible legal burdens. You wonder if, someday, this could be argued a constitutional violation of a woman’s right to receive a legal medical procedure.

Abortion is back as a lodestar of Republican primary politics — see presidential candidates pile on Mitt Romney, a pro-choice politician for a time in Massachusetts.
