MAUMELLE — Former middleweight boxing champion Jermain Taylor was involved in a verbal altercation with his mother that did not come to blows on a busy street Tuesday, police said.Authorities said they received 911 calls about the confrontation but that all parties had left the scene by the time officers arrived.
Police Chief Sam Williams said the investigation is continuing but that he had no indication that any laws were broken.
According to police, witnesses said Taylor, 32, driving a a black Mercedes, caught up with a white van driven by his mother, Carlois Taylor, at the corner of Odom and Maumelle Boulevards, one of the city’s busiest streets. While the two were outside their vehicles arguing, Taylor apparently threw his mother’s car keys on the side of the road, Williams said.
Carlois Taylor lives in Maumelle, according to the chief. The boxer lived in the Little Rock suburb when he started boxing but now lives on Arkansas 365 in the county, he said.
Tayor, who sustained a concussion in a knockout in his last fight nearly two years ago, recently announced word of a planned comeback, likely in Little Rock this summer.
