A Little Rock police officer shot a man who pulled a gun on him after a traffic stop in Southwest Little Rock about 1 p.m. today.

Police say two officers were investigating burglaries when they found a license tag didn’t match a car in the 6300 block of Butler Road. According to Lt. Terry Hastings, the passenger jumped out and started running. One officer chased on foot and the patrol car followed, too. The man pulled a gun from the waistband of his pants and pointed it at the driving officer, who fired twice, striking the man in the side. He was hospitalized in unknown condition, but Hastings said he was able to speak to ambulance attendants. The driver of the car was arrested without resistance.

Officers were not identified. The one who shot the man will be suspended while the shooting is reviewed.
