A 5.8 earthquake centered near Richmond rattled the Eastern Seaboard today. It caused evacuation of government buildings in Washington, some disruption in airline flights and plenty of angst. But, at last word, no serious damage or injuries. (My daughter said she felt the building shake while on the sixth floor of her New York City apartment and raced down stairs with a panicky cat, but found no one else heading down with her so went back to her chores.)
