It’s old news, but it’s always a worthy reminder whenever there’s reporting on the Republican myth that voter photo ID laws are about preventing vote fraud. Voter impersonation at the polls simply doesn’t happen. One reason is simply practical: Replicating it in outcome-enhancing ways is all but impossible.

The voter “fraud” bills are about making it harder for poor people, old people and other Democratic-friendly voter segments to vote. Period.

As we know, Republicans like Tim Griffin have engaged in suppression campaigns aimed at blocking the polls to people WITH voter ID — famously including black servicemen serving their country abroad who were targeted by insidious suppression campaigns in Florida.
