Channel 4 has a report on a Little Rock police matter that puts Assistant Chief Carlos Corbin in an unflattering light.
By his account, his unmarked city-issued Impala was struck by a hit-and-run driver on M.L. King about 2 a.m. Sunday Oct. 2 and it was so disabled he was unable to give effective chase and couldn’t drive the car more than about a half-mile, to 33rd and Arch. The police report said he was hit by someone who ran a stop sign.
But, Channel 4 reports, accident investigators have turned up evidence, including wreck debris, that his car might have hit, not another car, but a cedar tree in Interstate Park, whose boundary is just two blocks from 33rd and Arch.
Corbin didn’t return calls from Channel 4. Police say the investigation is ongoing. Cruiser was a total loss — estimated at $14,500.
