Rick Perry looks like a dead skunk in the middle of the road as a presidential candidate, but he forges ahead.
Here, he’s done something commendable — come out against a Texas license plate incorporating the Confederate flag. No need to be “scraping old wounds,” Perry said.
This is widely viewed, however, as damaging to his already troubled candidacy in South Carolina, which is in a neck-and-neck race to the bottom of the 50 states with Alabama and Mississippi. Could the following really be true?
One unaffiliated Republican operative, who declined to speak on the record because of the divisive nature of the issue, also said Perry just dug himself a hole.
“For some people, the wound is still very raw from ‘The War Of Northern Aggression,’” the operative said. “[Perry’s] statement is probably dangerous.”
Still raw after 150 years?
