It’s over. Mitt Romney is the Republican nominee.

But when Dowd is right, she’s right. It’s worth reading, too, because, though Santorum’s manner is a good bit nastier than some, much of his viewpoint is shared by the other clown car passengers. So it isn’t just about Santorum, but about a hypermoralistic and unforgiving bunch who aren’t satisfied with getting their way. They also demand punishment — unwanted pregnancy, employment discrimination and bullying for gay people, financial penalties for the poor — of those they don’t judge up to their moral standards.
