Dr. Melissa Harris-Perry, a political science professor at Tulane and frequent commentator on MSNBC, will speak in the Bless the Mic lecture series at 7 p.m. Jan. 19 at Philander Smith College. No tickets are needed for the talk in the M.L. Harris Auditorium.

Harris-Perry is the author of “Sister Citizen: Shame, Stereotypes, and Black Women in America,” a columnist for The Nation and will be starting her own show on MSNBC in February. Her academic work focuses on challenges facing contemporary black Americans.
