The Little Rock Fire Department said an 89-year-old woman died at a hospital after a fire in her home at 1710 Lilac Circle about 8:30 p.m. last night.

Fire Capt. Randy Hickman said a neighbor reported the fire, which appeared to be in the home’s bathroom. The woman, whose identity has not been released by authorities, was found in a hallway and taken to a hospital where she died. Hickman said she’d suffered burns, but it wasn’t clear if the death was related to burns, smoke inhalation or another cause.

An investigation continues into the cause of the fire. The home had central heat and air so there wasn’t an open flame heater in the bathroom. He said the home had a number of candles, however, and they are also being investigated as a possible cause. A smoke alarm had activated and was sounding when firemen arrived, Hickman said.
